The Academy Spring Concert will take place on May 7 and will feature the Koussevitzky Concerto for Double Bass performed by Lawrence Hall. The Academy Orchestra will perform Elgar’s Spanish Lady Suite and Rhosymedre by Vaughan Williams – a Welsh tune meaning “lovely” arranged for string orchestra. There will be short illustrations and introductions and lyrical works.
The Academy was featured in 2021 on the 98.7 WFMT radio show Introductions.

The Academy Fall Semester Concert will take place on December 18 and will feature performances of works from C.P.E. Bach, Sibelius, Glazunov and Copland with amazing violin soloists Amelia Piscitelli and Tabitha Rea.

ACADEMY SPRING CONCERT
Concerto at the Double

The Academy Spring Concert is entitled “Concerto at the Double” and will feature concertos for two instruments. With performances from both the Senior and Junior Academy Orchestras, there will be seven young soloists.
In a celebration of the baroque double concerto the Senior Academy performs three of the most famous – the Bach Double Violin Concerto, the Concerto for Two Violins and the Concerto for two Celli by Vivaldi! The Junior Academy will perform the first movement of the Violin Concerto in A Minor by Vivaldi and Bach’s famous Air from the Orchestral Suite No. 3 with a selection of other movements.

Join violinist Amelia Piscitelli and pianist Cindy Trowbridge for this recital of works for violin and piano by Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Wieniawski, Rachmaninoff and Bloch. This benefit concert helps to raise funds to continue in our mission of inspiring the next generation of youthful musicians through our educational Academy program. Amelia is Concert Master of the Senior Academy Orchestra.

The Academy Summer Camp Concert will feature baroque concerti and string orchestra classics performed by both the Camerata Chicago Senior and Junior Academy Orchestras. Students will have enjoyed a summer camp for the previous week at a fabulous country estate rehearsing with the Music Director and Academy faculty, as well as participating in a variety of extra-curricular activities.
Enjoy a summer afternoon of fabulous music followed by a cocktail reception and dinner!
Enjoy the Telemann Viola Concerto performed by Academy violist Sylvia Byars, the St. Paul Suite by Holst, the marvelous Shostakovich Waltz No. 2. and Corelli Concerto Grosso No 4 in D Major among other works. The Academy Piano Quartet will perform Beethoven’s Piano Quartet No. 1 in C Major.

The Junior Academy Orchestra
The WFMT radio show Introductions recently featured the Academy Orchestra. The show presented by Robbie Ellis was broadcast on Saturday, March 27 at 11 am and aired our recent recordings of Mozart’s Symphony No 15 and Shostakovich as well as an excellent interview with Academy member Patience Smith.

The Senior and Junior Academy orchestras were professionally recorded on December 18 as part of the Camerata Chicago Academy classroom learning program. This performance was recorded without an audience in place of an end of semester concert.

YOUNG ARTISTS SHOWCASE CONCERT

Our Academy Concertmaster Amelia Piscitelli will perform for the Wheaton College Artist Series at 7:30 pm on October 24, 2020. This concert premieres a new series called the Young Artist Showcase. A new podcast is available for the WFMT Introductions radio show featuring Amelia Piscitelli, Concertmaster of our Academy Orchestra. The show was broadcast on Saturday, July 18 at 11a.m. Robbie Ellis, Presenter and Producer profiled alum Amelia Piscitelli, currently between her freshman and sophomore years at college. They looked back at her Introductions recital as a 15-year-old in 2016, as well as her work as concertmaster of the Academy Orchestra and soloist with the Camerata Chicago professional orchestra.

Enjoy the beautiful playing of the Camerata Chicago Academy Orchestra comprising excellent young musicians who will perform Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 and a movement from Mozart’s Symphony No. 15.
Kate Johnston will perform the Bach Harpsichord Concerto in D Minor with the Academy Orchestra. They are joined by the Junior Academy, a second, smaller ensemble of younger students, who will play the Kuchler Concertino in G Major with young Junior Academy soloist Aleksia Nenadovich.
It will be a wonderful string orchestra concert with virtuoso soloists performing lyrical classics, and a great and inspiring experience for children – who can attend for free.
As well as the Camerata Chicago professional orchestra, we also have an Academy with the best young musicians.

Cameron Fuller will perform the Capuzzi Double Bass Concerto with the Academy Orchestra. They are joined by the Junior Academy, a second, smaller ensemble of students aged 8 – 14, who will play the Vivaldi Violin Concerto Opus 7 No. 11 with young Academy Orchestra soloist Tabitha Rea.
It will be a wonderful string orchestra concert with virtuoso soloists performing lyrical classics, and a great experience for children – who can attend for free. The Camerata Chicago Academy Orchestra is Ensemble-in-Residence at Gary Methodist Church, Wheaton.

The Academy orchestra performs Baroque concerti with young virtuoso violinists! A special treat will be a debut performance by Tabitha Rea and Ananya Moses performing the Vivaldi Concerto for Four Violins which captures the essence of youth. They are joined by Amelia Piscitelli and Kevin Shi, who will also perform the lovely Bach Double Violin Concerto.
The orchestra will be joined by the Junior Academy ensemble of 10 young musicians performing Bach, Martini and Handel’s Water Music Hornpipe, completing this concert in Baroque style with double dotted flare. It will be a wonderful string orchestra concert with virtuoso soloists performing baroque lyrical classics, and a great experience for children – who can attend for free.
The Camerata Chicago Academy Orchestra is Ensemble-in-Residence at Gary Methodist Church, Wheaton.
The Academy orchestra performs Baroque concerti with virtuoso violinists and the viola. A special treat will be a debut performance by Lily Smith of the Telemann Viola Concerto. A member of the Academy for several years, Lily recently joined the viola section of the professional Camerata Chicago orchestra for its series with international violinist Shmuel Ashkenasi performing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto.
The Academy orchestra captures the essence of spring with a light touch of Vivaldi – violinists Amelia Piscitelli and Kevin Shi and cellist Luca Warren will play the Vivaldi Concerto for Two Violins and Cello in D Minor, one of our favorites. This is Kevin’s debut as soloist.
The Junior Academy ensemble with eight players will perform a Tartini Trio Sonata.
The Handel Concerto Grosso Opus 6 No. 1 will complete this concert in Baroque style with double dotted flare.

The famous Four Seasons by Vivaldi will be performed by 16 year old virtuoso violinist Amelia Piscitelli with the Academy Orchestra! Both the Academy and Amelia were featured on WFMT’s Introductions radio show last year. Come and hear for yourself the brilliant young violinist from Indiana Amelia Piscitelli perform this most beloved of classical favorites, combined with the now renowned excellence of our Academy Orchestra’s young musicians – conducted by the English maestro, Drostan Hall.

The Camerata Chicago Academy Orchestra will perform the Vaughan Williams Violin Concerto Academico soloed by violinist and Concert Master Ellen Maloney. In a delightful concert of lyrical string orchestra classics, the Academy will perform a selection of movements from the Tchaikovsky String Serenade and Grieg’s Elegaic Melodies. The Academy performed on 98.7WFMT Introductions on December 10.
Special Children’s Segment: Ellen Maloney will perform the delightful classic story of Ferdinand the Bull for solo violin and narrator by Alan Ridout and Munro Leaf narrated by Drostan Hall in a special segment for children.
