Ten years since Sir Charles Mackerras died

Sir Charles Mackerras, for many years International Advisor to Camerata Chicago, died ten years ago today, July 14.

Music Director Drostan Hall said: “We remember him fondly! He was a giant of the musical world and we are very grateful that he chose to become our International Advisor. It was a huge pleasure to work with him. He generously gave me several of his batons which I treasure! We miss him greatly.”

MackerrasLegacy.com has published some previously unreleased interviews Sir Charles gave. The site includes his nephew, Drostan Hall, conducting Camerata Chicago in a  performance of Beethoven Symphony No. 5 which Jon Tolansky compares directly with Sir Charles’s own recording with the Liverpool Philharmonic. It was concluded that the Mackerras spirit lives on in Drostan’s work as conductor. (From “Charles Mackerras Master Conductor” produced by Jon Tolanski for 98.7 WFMT.)
