Mary Mahaffey presents a plaque to 98.7WFMT Steve Robinson

98.7WFMT Vice President Steve Robinson was presented with an award for his huge contribution to Chicago music and musicians on October 14, 2016 by Mary Mehaffey, a Member of the Board of Camerata Chicago. The award represents the Steve Robinson Associate Concert Master Chair of the orchestra. Steve retired from 98.7 WFMT at the end of the summer.

Steve Robinson, Vice President of 98.7 WFMT being awarded the Associate Concert Master Chair by Camerata Chicago board member Mary Mehaffey at the October 14, 2016 Sweetest Day concert in Chicago. This is in recognition of Steve’s marvelous contribution to the Chicago music community. Steve retired a few weeks ago.

WFMT 98.7 LogoOur Sweetest Day series started with a 98.7 WFMT broadcast of our Tchaikovsky Rococo Variations with cellist Julian Schwarz at noon on Friday October 14, with host Lisa Flynn. We listened live on wfmt.com. SWEETEST DAY SERIES

The music is the opening theme from Blumhofer’s Variations on Thaxted, a theme by Holst, performed by Camerata Chicago in 2003 and recorded by Bruce Currie, Camerata Chicago’s President, clarinet player and recording engineer. It was commissioned and written by Jonathan Blumhofer especally for Camerata Chicago’s inaugural performance. It will be performed as part of the Sweetest Day Series concerts on October 14 and 16.

A wonderful string orchestra concert with soloists performing romances, suites and lyrical classics. The repertoire will include the Atterberg Suite for Solo violin, viola and strings with Mathias Tacke and Rose Armbrust, and the Svendsen Romance for Violin and Orchestra performed by Amelia Piscitelli.

This concert will be recorded by 98.7 WFMT for future broadcast.
