Louise Higgins was born in Dublin, Ireland. She began playing the violin when she was eight years old. In 1992, she graduated from the Conservatoire of Music and Drama in Dublin with a Bachelor’s Degree of Music and the Gold Medal for Highest Performance. Higgins made her debut at the National Concert Hall, Dublin with the St. Cecilia Chamber Orchestra. After winning first prizes in Irish National competitions, she represented Ireland in the European Soloist of the Year Competition. In 1996, Ms Higgins studied with Paul Biss at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana; where she graduated with an Artist Diploma. While studying there, she also studied baroque violin with Stanley Richie. In 2002, she became a member of the Avila Quartet. While studying with members of the LaSalle Quartet and Vermeer Quartet, the Avila Quartet toured in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Alabama. After her studies with Shmuel Ashkenasai, Ms Higgins moved to Chicago. She has played solo and chamber recitals in Chicago, performed the annual benefit concert for Elgin Symphony Orchestra in 2003 and appeared on and Arts Showcase on WTTW. She is a member of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and also plays in the Ravinia Festival Orchestra, Chicago Philharmonic and the Chicago Chamber Orchestra. She teaches at the Merit School of Music in Chicago. |
